Reconnect clubs host phone-free events every other week to create a fully engaged, uninterrupted social environment that Gen Z rarely experiences. Reconnect events include hikes, painting days, scavenger hunts, and more. Club members say making friends and connecting is so much easier and more fun because every event is phone-free.
Reconnect was founded by college student Seán Killingsworth. After constantly feeling isolated while surrounded by social media, Seán traded his smartphone for a flip-phone. That’s when he discovered the outside world was no longer full of in person social opportunities because everyone was looking down at their phones and focusing on social media. He created The Reconnect Movement to provide students with a place dedicated to meeting people and socializing face to face.
What’s the point of hanging out with no phones?
Social media, texting, dating apps. They’ve developed this monopoly on opportunities for connection in our generation.
This means even if you don’t enjoy social media, you’re trapped because everyone else is still using it. So even if you take action and delete social media, your ability to socialize will suffer because everyone else relies on them for their social needs.
A reconnect club at your school attracts those who wants to experience something different than using social media to connect all the time.
Once you bring together the students who want to hang out reconnected, you forget about the stress of your phone, and connecting becomes actually easy and fun! That way, you can hang out and make friends in person, with no distractions, while doing fun stuff together!
